I’ve been listening to Radio Milwaukee for years. It is a non profit, non commercial public radio station. They don’t have a set format, though they lean towards indie rock. We have supported them as members and then as sponsors for a long time, and its because I really believe in the power of the station and the community it has built. In a time when it is easier than ever to just listen to your own playlists, I still tune into the radio a few times a day.
When the time came for their most recent fundraiser round, I was asked to participate in their “Karaoke For A Cause” event during the Fall Ball. I got myself a fundraising page, and set to work to pick out a song and contact friends and family to donate to the station. It was an honor to be considered and I was super excited to actually perform for a crowd.
I’m not a stranger to a stage. I’ve spoke, I’ve done comedy, I’ve DJ’d and all in front of some big crowds. But I haven’t sung outside of my car in a long time. I knew my range wasn’t great. I also knew to make an impact it had to be something unexpected. So it came to be obvious. The fundraising challenge was a dare, and I was stupid to think I could do it. Dare To Be Stupid.
